Polished Leblanc Quartzite Kitchen in Minnetonka, Minnesota

Project Backstory

At Minnesota Tile & Stone, we teamed up with Hendel Homes to bring natural quartzite into a custom kitchen on Lake Minnetonka. The homeowners wanted an open concept space where the stone would carry the whole room, so we built the design around Leblanc quartzite in a polished finish.

We fabricated the countertops from 3cm quartzite and wrapped the island in a mitered edge for a thick, solid profile. A matching stone range hood anchors the cooking area, and a dedicated coffee bar carries the same material into a quieter corner of the kitchen. The apron cooktop keeps the workspace open and easy to gather around.

The result is a high-end kitchen made to be lived in for years. Quartzite gives this Hendel Homes build a hardworking surface that still reads as refined, tying the island, hood, and coffee bar into one continuous look. For homeowners and builders around Minnetonka, this project shows how natural stone can define a room without taking it over.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Quartzite is a natural stone that rates high for hardness and stands up well to daily cooking, prep, and heat. In this Minnetonka kitchen we used 3cm slabs, which add strength and a substantial feel. With normal care it resists scratching and holds up to the wear of an active household.
Wipe up spills promptly and clean with warm water and a mild, pH neutral soap. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners that can dull the polish. Because quartzite is porous, we recommend sealing it periodically, often about once a year depending on use, so the surface stays protected against staining.
They sound alike but are not the same. Quartzite is a fully natural stone quarried from the earth, prized for its one of a kind movement and patterning like the Leblanc quartzite used here. Quartz countertops are engineered from ground stone and resin. Quartzite offers natural character and strong heat resistance, which is why it suited this custom Lake Minnetonka build.
